Renovations are a necessary part of the hotel industry and although expensive, when done right, they can create a buzz loud enough to be heard across the country. In this case, Florida’s Ritz Carlton South Beach renovation buzzed loud enough for us in Arizona to perk up our ears and ask “What’s that Florida? A luxury destination resort on the beach in a super hip town AND in the Art Deco District?” Here’s the beautiful answer:
Originally built as the DiLido Hotel in 1953 by Morris Lapidus – the legendary architect of neo-baroque hotels and the “father” of Art Deco- the newly renovated Ritz is spectacular.
The hotel’s new look is touted as barefoot luxury, which I can embrace whole-heartedly! Before and after:
I love this description of the design process during the renovation: Opulent walkways adorned with shimmering platinum glazed walls complement aqua-colored, textured carpets with patterns reminiscent of the reflection of light on water. Ocean blue, sea mist green, and coral tones weave throughout beach-inspired textiles, bedding, upholstery, and décor…Sleek and contemporary furnishings, such as espresso-stained bookcases and desks and nightstands with antique rubbed bronze legs, create a living space where fashion meets function. Hanging pendants, orbital lamps, and uniquely shaped lounge furniture play up the circular gestures in Morris Lapidus’ original design approach.
So go on and get your Art Deco fix in the city that is known for the swanky style!
